As many people pack for their summer holidays, heading for sunnier climes - although the temperature in London right now is 32°C - I thought I would share a short film (5 minutes) released by the BBC archive, a treasure trove of our collective history.
Fifty years ago, three women, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Smith, and Miss Lee, set off from Llandudno, a coastal town in north Wales, on a six hour round trip to the Isle of Man. Sailing aboard the TSS Mona’s Isle V, what makes the ferry crossing unusual is that this is the trio’s 795th sea voyage to the same destination. They made the trip every day - 57 in total - of the summer season, and had been doing so for around 15 years. Why did they do it? Well, you will have to watch to find out, but it will leave you with a smile on your face. Of course, ReidsonFilm are not on holiday - too busy watching films for that.
Thank you for reading Reids on Film. We hope you enjoyed this film and if you did please share with a friend and do leave a comment.
