Starting with Mirror was brave! I found it challenging despite already having seen a few Tarkovsky films. I think you'll find Stalker a better introduction.
I loved reading every word of this. Thankyou. I tried to get through a Tarkovsky box set a couple of years ago and did reasonably well but alas it needs maybe a couple of decades to digest it properly. His work is hard to consume - you have to kind of dwell and let it envelope you. This is why I enjoyed reading of your own experience. Thankyou.
Yeah… it’s definitely different but there’s a lot of similarities. Aside from the sci fi stuff, it’s hard for me to tell if the overall vibe was something Stalker shares or if it’s more Russian art in general
A very helpful and intriguing review. I have tried Tarkovsky (Mirror) before and given up. But I am definitely interested in watching Stalker.
Definitely give Stalker a shot it’s unlike anything else I’ve ever seen

Thank you Jason. I agree, never an easy watch, but always worth it.
Great essay. You ever read Roadside Picnic?
Funny you mention it - my copy just arrived today.
I've heard it's quite different from the film.
You started the book yet?
