I have to confess to not always reading every Reids on Film review. They are a prolific bunch! I like this director but this was my least favourite of the 3 films I have seen. Enjoyable and Woody Harrelson is standout but too long and the bloated rich a soft target to harpoon. I much preferred his ridicule of the Art World.

Ultimate Cannes “emperor has no clothes” film — wildly overrated. Condescending, mean, self-congratulatory, poorly shot, boring, repulsive 3 year old level potty humor and trite. Best seen as a satire of the self-hating yet egotistical film community.

You’ve perfectly captured how I felt about this movie. I didn’t love it, but felt compelled to watch just to see where it was going. I also found it overlong and cliched. I had similar feelings about Saltburn. I wonder what you all thought about it.

Saltburn really wasn't my cup of tea at all. Lots of luscious montages, but all very silly in my opinion with a few shocking moments thrown in to generate hype. I've just read that Ruben Ostlund's next film is about a bunch of people on an airplane when the entertainment system goes down, so it looks like he really is going to continue with the same theme...

Nicely put! My one viewing of the film doesn't quite feel sufficient, I need to give it another go.

I agree. It was also overlong but, like you say, it looked pretty. And haha ugh really? To me satirizing the rich or bourgeoisie just feels so overdone at this point. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty to satirize, but it often feels like directors or writers just go, hey, look at these rich assholes. Aren’t they assholes? And weird? And materialistic? And I’m like this isn’t new or insightful. lol
