As I recall, there was an American remake where the story has a happy ending
indeed... kiefer sutherland is rescued by his girlfriend, just in the nick of time. awful, especially given that it was made by the same director.
One of the most disturbing films I've seen!
I still recall seeing it shortly after it was released, and hadn't seen it again until now. The detail of Raymond's upbringing and the sense of inevitability make it all the more unsettling.
I don't think I would be able to watch it again!!
This terrifying film has stuck with me over the decades. Glad to know I am in sync with Kubrick.
