Eraserhead

A requiem for David Lynch

USA, 1977

I learned that just beneath the surface there’s another world, and still different worlds as you dig deeper. I knew it as a kid, but I couldn’t find the proof David Lynch

The work of David Lynch has often served as a touchstone for much of our deliberations on the films we have reviewed here at ReidsonFilm. When he died on the 15th January 2025, all four of us were shocked and I think it’s fair to say that the world lost some of its colour that day. So we thought we would record a podcast in which we would talk about, amongst other things, his debut feature film, Eraserhead. This is our way of paying tribute to not just one of the great filmmakers, but one of the great artists, of our time.

It makes me uncomfortable to talk about meanings and things. It’s better not to know so much about what things mean. Because the meaning, it’s a very personal thing, and the meaning for me is different than the meaning for somebody else — David Lynch
